Welcome to Outside the Pulpit. We are going to embark on a journey talking with people from all walks of life and from around the world as they tell us their stories and share their experiences.
This podcast is something I have wanted to do for a long time. Let’s start with a little back story: First, I love to hear a great story. So, through the years I cultivated a life of listening and observing. And something I learned early on is that If you are going to hear a great story, then you have to take the time to listen. When you listen, there are a couple of things you will discover: everyone has value and everyone has a story to tell.
Now, for my husband, John, I want to tell you a little about him. For the past 42 years I have been observing him, both in and out of the pulpit. But He has been in ministry for 51 years now. Because of him, I have been in the unique position of observing the ins and outs of ministry life. And it is not for the faint of heart! There are many ups and downs. This is why I can say, with confidence that I am ideally suited to say that what makes the most powerful and impactful ministry IS by what happens Outside the pulpit.
Let me bring another factor into play: The experiences John and I have had are completely different! While He has seen most everything from behind the pulpit because that has always been his position. That has by no means been the case for me! Which leads me to the podcast title: “Outside the Pulpit”- this has been my vantage point. Because of that we will not only be talking with ministers. But we are also going to be spending time with some people I found most interesting along the way.
We will be diving into all things in and around ministry life as we talk with those who are just starting out and to those who have been at it for many years. As we go, you undoubtedly will see that there is so much more to ministry than just preaching a sermon.
I told you that I also love to tell a great story! From our travels around the United States to countries abroad I am inviting you to join me as I share the true stories of some of the most unusual experiences, some of the special moments, and some of the best conversations. If you stay with me, I believe you will find yourself right alongside me; and together we will laugh, we will cry and we will listen and wait for the moment of surprise, the joy, and the observation that God is everywhere, all the time and in everything. So, let’s start listening!
